Since 2007, Giordano has been exploring a series of energy saving initiatives. Focusing on controlling energy costs and reducing carbon dioxide emissions, the brand chose to gradually replace energy-consuming incandescent lamps and blazingly hot halogen lamps with MEGAMAN^® Energy Saving Lamps and LED Reflectors in its outlets. This change has resulted in Giordano reducing its CO₂ emissions by more than 400 tons per year.

Electricity generation accounts for more than 60% of the total greenhouse gases emissions. A lot of pollutants and greenhouse gases are produced in burning coal, worsening global warming and environmental pollution. Lighting is one of the sources of energy consumption in buildings. While energy-saving lamps consume less power and emit much less heat than incandescent and halogen lamps, further lowering the energy consumption from air-conditioners, employing energy efficient products with eco-designs can help to conserve the environment.

In pursuit of green initiatives and a comfortable shopping environment, four years ago, Giordano started an environmental friendly and energy-saving campaign with MEGAMAN^® by replacing incandescent lamps and halogen lamps with energy saving lamps in its retail outlets. Recently, to further leverage its energy-saving performance and highlight its product displays, the brand has employed the ground breaking MEGAMAN^® LED lamps too.

For the time being, the energy saving result of Giordano outlets in Hong Kong is resounding. MEGAMAN^® eco-lighting solutions help the brand to save 618,917 kWh of energy and reduce 430 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. “Energy conservation is probably the most direct way to combat global warming. We have been looking for eco-lighting options that can truly replace the energy consuming incandescent and halogen light sources.” said Mr William Yue, Director of Corporate and External Affairs at Giordano.

發電過程中排放的溫室氣體佔逾全球總排放量的60%。煤在燃燒時會產生大量的污染物及溫室氣體，令全球變暖及環境污染問題惡化。而照明設備更是五大能源消耗之一，採用慳電膽及LED燈代替鎢絲燈及石英燈，不但可減少耗電，更由於慳電照明產品產生的熱量較低，解決了鎢絲燈、石英燈等燈膽過熱問題，降低門市舖面的冷氣用電，進一步減少二氧化碳排放。

佐丹奴向來提倡環保，致力為顧客營造一個舒適的購物環境。因此，四年前開始與曼佳美^®合作，展開了一系列環保節能計劃，於門市逐步以慳電膽取代其沿用的耗能鎢絲燈。近年，為了進一步減排節能及突出產品陳列效果，佐丹奴更於其門市採用了嶄新的曼佳美^®LED反射燈。

佐丹奴門市採用了曼佳美^®環保節能照明方案後，每年節省了618,917千瓦小時電力及減少430公噸二氧化碳排放，成效顯著。佐丹奴公司事務及外務總監虞瑋麟指出：「節約能源可幫助減輕全球暖化的問題，所以我們一直尋找適合的節能方法，可完全替代鎢絲燈及石英燈的照明系統，實現環保照明。」

儘管慳電膽及LED反射燈產品成本較普通燈膽昂貴，卻長壽耐用，可節省高達８成電費及維修費用，長遠來說，可有效減低營運成本。佐丹奴集團旗下發售的衣物，素色衣物為數不少，為有效凸顯其服飾特色，店內光線對產品陳列極為重要。因此，佐丹奴在門市的燈光設計亦特別花上心思，就照明用品的選擇、燈的數量及分佈上，盡量配合室內設計及貨品陳設，以求達到理想的燈光效果。

一般慳電膽節能成效卓越，然而其發光點較鎢絲燈大，燈光較為柔和平均，若燈距離產品太遠，所產生的亮度不夠集中，難以吸引顧客注意。有見及此，設計師在設計店內燈光時，選用了慳電膽及LED反射燈配合使用；以慳電膽作店內一般照明，營造舒適環境，再以LED反射燈作重點照明，令產品更突出。

Even though the initial set-up cost of using the LED reflectors and energy saving lamps is higher, with a longer lamp life and up to 80% electricity saving capability, an eco-lighting solution is more cost efficient in the long run. Lighting is one of the core elements in product display. Inspired by the “simple and clean” characteristics of the brand, most of the products of Giordano are in plain colours. To effectively highlight the product characteristics, Giordano has put lots of effort in selecting the right lighting devices and arranging the distribution of light sources that matches with the interior decor and products to be displayed.

An energy-saving lamp is energy efficient. With a bigger point of source than incandescent lamps, most of the energy saving lamps are effective in delivering soothing and evenly distributed light. However, if the lamp is placed far from the illuminated object, it would be difficult to highlight the product. As a result, the lighting designer has employed LED reflectors to complement compact fluorescent lamps to light the store, with the former to highlight the products and the latter as general lighting.

For example, NOVELLA ceiling downlight fixtures and MEGAMAN^® MATRIX plug-in tubes, which are smaller than the traditional plug-in tubes are used for general lighting, making ceiling lighting more flexible and allowing for a more even lighting distribution to bring a harmonious shopping atmosphere for customers. On the other hand, MEGAMAN^® MOSAIC Tracklight and LOFT Tracklight, together with LED reflector lamps are used for highlighting displayed items. With a narrow beam angle comparable to that of halogen lamps, LED reflector is able to deliver brilliant directional light to accentuate a specific item. Such spotlighting effects can highlight the clothes and enhance their appearance, texture and colour.
