Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) technology has taken a significant step forward. Fast Warm-Up – a technical leap in lamp performance – now enables MEGAMAN® CFLs to reach 60% brightness within 15 seconds of warm-up, 87.5% faster than the previous versions, and even faster than liquid mercury CFLs.

To boost the performance of CFLs in an environmentally friendly fashion, MEGAMAN® has successfully developed the Fast Warm-Up technology to light up the lamp in a shorter time with NO additional amalgam used.
Amalgam is a stable, solid mercury alloy that is a safer, more eco-friendly alternative to liquid mercury. Mercury is an important component of CFLs and plays a key role in warm-up time. All CFLs utilise excited mercury to produce ultraviolet energy, which in turn stimulates the phosphor coating inside the lamp to produce visible light. CFLs typically need some warm-up time before achieving full brightness, essentially because sufficient mercury vapour pressure needs to be built up first.
Moreover, along with this technical improvement, the lumen output and switching cycles have also been improved.
In order to guarantee an acceptable level of service with any compact fluorescent lamp, the European Union (EU) introduced a minimum requirement on warm-up times and the number of switching cycles. A CFL with amalgam should reach 60% of its full light output within 120 seconds and achieve a minimum of 30,000 switching cycles before failure. Not only are MEGAMAN® CFLs in compliance with the ErP directive that sets out minimum requirements for eco-design of energy-related products, these lamps are far beyond ErP requirements that will only come into effect in 2014.
